SUZI BATTERSBY
Founder + Prosthetics Designer
Suzi is a multi-skilled prosthetics designer and technician who has worked in film, TV and theatre for 13 years. Originally from Sheffield, she is now based in London and has worked in various countries around the world.
Suzi trained at London College of Fashion graduating with a First Class BA (Hons) degree in Technical Effects for Performance, and furthered her sculpting skills completing courses at the London Atelier of Representational Art and The Sculpture School. She started working on professional productions in 2011 as a freelancer and has worked for some of Europe’s leading effects companies in film and television (credits include Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Mowgli: Legend of the Jungle, Alien: Covenant and Morbius). Suzi has worked across all specialisms within prosthetics and creature effects setting herself apart as a particularly accomplished and versatile artist. Through extensive self-study and technical development at her own company, Suzi continues to perfect and further advance industry processes and materials.
Suzi is an award-winning and nominated prosthetic designer, most recently being recognised for her work on Dame Helen Mirren in Golda for which she received a nomination for Makeup & Hairstlying at the 96th Academy Awards, part of the first all-women teams to do so for Prosthetics. Over the years, Suzi has been a part of BAFTA winning and Oscar and Emmy award nominated teams, and has made prosthetics for actors including Willem Dafoe, Gillian Anderson, Tom Hiddleston, David Tennant, Jared Leto, Timothy Spall, Geoffrey Rush, Michael Fassbender, Billie Piper, Matt Smith and Rebecca Ferguson as well as musicians Stormzy, Sam Smith and Slowthai. Her work can be seen on such films as Guy Nattiv’s Golda, Ridley Scott's Alien: Covenant and J.J. Abrams' Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens as well as on TV productions including Silo (Apple TV), Sex Education (Netflix) and Doctor Who (BBC).
Working across a variety of productions in key roles has given Suzi a wealth of experience as an excellent problem-solver delivering high-quality results, often under pressure. As well as film and TV, she has created work for major stage productions for Shakespeare's Globe, English National Opera, the Royal Opera House and on Broadway, as well as for commercials, music videos and fashion shoots. Suzi has also been a guest lecturer for the MA in Shakespeare Studies at Shakespeare’s Globe for the past 8 years and has taught a number of masterclasses in prosthetics.
Recently, Suzi has been designing prosthetics for Aneil Karia & Riz Ahmed’s film adaptation of ‘Hamlet’, Andrea Arnold’s latest feature film and for FX’s new series ‘Say Nothing’.
